Edward Y. Derentz 

Industry Experience: 

Mr. Derentz is the Chief Operating Officer of Polaris Risk Management and Insurance Services. Mr. Derentz joined Polaris in October of 2002 and is in charge of daily operations.

Prior to joining Polaris, Mr. Derentz was in charge of the CIBA property program at NorthStar Risk Management from 1998 to 2002. Under his watch, the CIBA program grew from $3,000,000 to over $12,000,000 in annual premium with an exceptional loss ratio. The CIBA program became responsible for the majority of NorthStar’s income and profit.

Mr. Derentz’ operational background began in 1985 as General Manager for HYD Products in Camarillo, California.  HYD Products, at the time, was the largest wholesale importer and distributor of foreign car parts in the Western United States with sales in excess of $26 million per annum. In addition to operating the domestic operations, Mr. Derentz was promoted to Chief Financial Officer and Board Member where he was responsible for all exports to Australia, Hong Kong, the United Kingdom, Puerto Rico and other overseas ports. His duties included negotiating international trade agreements, shipment logistics, managing international currency hedge funds as well as overseeing the company's risk management and banking relationship needs on a global basis. Mr. Derentz was instrumental in the highly successful sale of HYD Products to a large suitor in 1998.

Mr. Derentz also has substantial experience in heading startup ventures with specific emphasis on wholesale and industrial “turn-key” construction projects. This experience has been utilized in risk management guidance for many clients with varied commercial property portfolios.

 Education / Professional:

  • California Fire and Casualty Broker-Agent License and various out of state, non-resident licenses.
  • Mr. Derentz attended Pepperdine University, Malibu, California, where his studies included Business Administration, Finance and Economics. 

Hobbies: 

Mr. Derentz enjoys frequent travel to Europe with his family for adventure bicycling, tennis and wine history and tasting.
